My Sweet Second Valentine's

Yet again as those good, tradition abiding single ladies out there go forth to throw their contact etched oranges into their water-containment-source-of-choice (be it river, lake, drain or perhaps the unfortunate home aquarium) in their hope and search of love this Chap Goh Mei, I walk down to the nearby mamak; capturing only the uncomforting stare of the wide-eyed moon.

Alone.

Okay, the title was a lie and I'm not complaining la, considering the fact that my love life has been idle for... All my life, pretty much. This second Valentine's has just led my thoughts to wander.

So the first time round, the idea was to spend the day with the dearest single college buddies with sob-worthy, mushy movies and wrap it all up with a pillow talk session. Which then evolved and resulted into a date with Weiler: a FOREVER ALONE polaroid to commemorate the day as well as spoiling ourselves with delectable deserts from Honeymoon. Oh well. What's life without it's twists and turns, eh? ;D

Anyway, that's beside the point.
What I query about is what Valentine's really is all about.

Sure, the celebration is simple enough.
For the couples; dates, hearts, chocolates and an extremely well-planned, romance oozing date to make the day perfect.
For the singular; depression, jealousy, Forever Alone whinings about Single Awareness Day or the 'I-don't-give-two-shits-so-I'll-insertnormaldayactivitiehere'.
Flowers all around, pink, red, white.
Flirting, infatuation, jealousy, depression.

But.
Has everyone forgot?
About how the main theme of this story is love?
Love not only for those with their special someone, but for themselves, family, friends, strangers... Humanity? Nature? LIFE?

Why only find a certain day that we should express our love by organizing extraordinary, bombastic expressions of love when we can do it anytime?
Not that I'm saying that's wrong, oh no, I'd be extremely touched for all the time and effort into the careful planning. It's just that maybe, just maybe, sometimes people tend to forget them littler things that could be done every day.
Hugs and kisses, words of affirmation. Appreciation.

So. My final conclusion?
OKAY LAH, OKAY LAH, I'm just trying to comfort myself because I don't want to end with my 27 cats only, okay? I really don't. LOL.

So all you single people out there, may your imaginary oranges remind you that love isn't only for that special someone okay... You're not alone, you're just not attached... Yet :D

Happy Chap Goh Mei, Second Valentine's Day and Last Day of Chinese New Year everybody :)

The Series of Eventful Weekends.

Alas, once again, I have neglected my poor poor blog again.
Am I losing the gist of contentment from writing?
Perhaps.

):

It better not last.

):

Lately, I've been having very eventful Sundays.
Which doesn't happen quite as often, it being reserved for family and all.
But.

There are few exceptions. Once in awhile.
Hey, it's not everyday I get to do this okay.
So if you ever do get to nab me for a Sunday outing:
FEEL APPRECIATED! :D

Thanks Kate, for the awesome movie Marathon.
I had fun burning my eyes out on four movies straight:
Loved being fascinated by brilliant stop-motion art with Coraline, swooning over Howl's Moving Castle, grossing ourselves out with The Rocker and just plain ol' enjoying Forrest Gump.

RUN FORREST, RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN! Sorryhadtodothat.

But the highlight for the day was DEFINITELY Zi-Lynn's legs.
Yes, we all LOVE your pretty, shiny, SMOOTH legs now. XD

Awesome movies, awesome food, awesome company.
Thanks Kate.
:)

Also, I know it's already 3 days late.
BUT.

HAPPY SEXY SEVENTEENTH, MALLINI KANNAN!!

Gosh, it's been what.
YEARS since I've known you?

Thanks for sticking with me for the past 9 years I've known you.
Thanks for being my mentor, my supporter, my supplier of blonde moments (heheh) and most of all, my friend.

Indeed, I stammer out a broken song of pitiful, insufficient words.
But well... You get my point.

Love you to bits!

And indeed, this shows that I ain't no song bird of much choice of words.
Again.
Bother.

Random note: This post was done in 10 minutes. That's RECORD TIME YO.
Speed writing, here I come :D

The Blind Leading the Blind.

None so blind as those that will not see.
Matthew (Matthew) Henry

A truly eye opening experience.
(Well, not in a LITERAL sense doh.)
Despite it being my second year doing this, the agonizingly 3km long walk was more fun-filled than usual (plus a few surprises! :D)

I arrived at the Civics Hall bright and early to find many menghitam-ed faces to greet me.
Or browned. Or redened. Roasted? lol
A good laugh to start a good day :)
There wasn't as much feeling of competition as I thought that would be, mostly because the Assuntarians had a 'Que Sera Sera' attitude going on since we figured Taman Sea would win with their huge numbers.
(Well, maybe not everyone. But I certainly did.)

Yeah, a competition this time around (thanks to Lions being inspired by Taman Sea's display last year), there were banners to be done and posters to be made. But I was really busy preparing for Sports Day, I couldn't do anything to contribute ):
I only demanded the balloons. XD

Thanks to Pei San, Xui Hui, Sharvani and Kah Yan who made it all happen! :,D

The Ingenius product of my incoming funding directors!
Now you see why they deserve the titles??

I just can't get over how CUTE this is!! XD
"Are you thinking what I'm thinking B1?" "I think I am, B2." "It's EYE AWARENESS TIME!"
Bwahaha.

I was stunned by the amount of posters that popped out of nowhere.
You guys seriously did a great job distributing work. X,D

My partner this time around was the ever so modest Daarshy! :D
The strangest thing is that when I'm blindfolded, I always get the feeling that I'm about to walk into a tiang.
But I trust you, Daarsh!
We trusted each other so much, I even sprinted blind. See??
Except the part where she didn't tell me there was a ledge in front of me... *cough*
I feel guilty for not being as much of a guider as her so yeah.
Sorry, Daarsh! X,D

We screamed ourselves silly with the Leo songs, our school cheers and even our school song when we passed by our school. Haha, the embarrassment man!

Oh, but the weirdest part was when a Lion came by (in all seriousness) and started separating us.
Until now, I still don't know what his motive was.
To make us feel how lost and fearful one gets as the blind?
Either way, it was pretty weird...

All said and done, the walk finally ended.
The lucky draw was another long, painful wait.
Only 2 Assuntarians got lucky:

Our dearest Penguin Wen Yuin with her Coffee Maker!
And little Miss President Ber-nice with her Free Dental Appointment!
Congrats you two! :D

Then it was time to announce the winners of the competition...
And we only got FIRST PLACE!
It was totally unexpected which, as quoted, made it all the sweeter.
Better yet, we're appearing in today's China Press!
Guess nothing compares to Assuntarian spirit! ;D

Potong stim though, that they had to do it in the middle of the lucky draw.
Some people just don't know how to leave others to wallow in their victory, do they?
Oh well. At least we won. :)

Our cutesy Pressie with the ginormous trophy

The people who made it happen!

A bunch of us savouring the win >D

Celebrated at Lotus with the PJIs.
(though both groups were stubborn to not budge until we decided to move to them. Hmph!)
Thanks a ton again, Syahira, for the belanja! D,:

See?
Community service is supposed to be fun this way.
:)

We Came Down to Watch the World Go By

Finally, a full day and a half outta the house.
I am now one super duper happy, satisfied and wiped out kid.

:D

Got dragged out of bed to kick start the day with a little 3 hour trip to the dentist.

Oh oh! I got my very very first X-RAY! 8D
Yeah yeah, it's only a miniscule sheet compared to the usual sizes you'd get but hey!
I have every right to savour my first-timer 'jakun'-tedness.

Turns out, I really am missing a tooth.
I think I swallowed it as a glop of flesh as a kid. Hmm...
Hope the orthodontist agrees to patch up that big gap between my two front teeth though...

After a hefty meal of the dim sum at Kim Seng (Note to self: That Taman Megah serves AWESOME dim sum), then proceeded to Zi-Lynn's open house!
Arrived just in time to lunch outside alongside Micheh, Kateh, Keilly and KK.
Had a blast contributing to noise pollution via Guilty Gear, DDR and banging piano keys with you guys!

Learnt Chor Dai Di and sang-along to much songs with Eric and Mun Suet.
Pitiful skills. But we're getting there!!

Quiet a funny little sight, really:
Lying 'selamba'-ly on the floor with pillows playing Chor Dai Di while singing mindlessly to familiar songs, then jolting from the sudden blast of cantonese from the sound system downstairs.

Then after...

Inkheart
Rating : 2 out of 5

Honestly, I don't quite like it.
The whole movie was quite monotonous: not revolving around laughter or tears...
Nothing.
Just bland lines. A big no- no on my good movie list.

Character-wise, only Dustfinger, Kashim and the author caught my attention.
The aunt was getting there, but not quite.

As it is, it's not quite as thrilling as the book.
In fact, it doesn't follow the book at all.

Though I quite like the idea of the half-reads having letter-like tattoos across their faces and limbs. The specials effects were really good too.

So overall, I wouldn't recommend this movie at all.
Only if you're looking for good graphics.
Oh, and maybe learn a few fire breathing tricks.

:P

Gong Xi Fa Cai!

And thus, the year of the golden OX dons upon us!

But what's so special about this year you might ask?
Here's a hint: it's definitely not the food, the brandishing new clothes nor the same ol' mah jong company...

Give up?

That's right folks, a SOLAR ECLIPSE!

Though partial but hey. It's better than nothing. And HOW OFTEN DO YOU GET TO SEE A SOLAR ECLIPSE IN YOUR SHORT, MISERABLE LIFESPAN???
Okay, so my mom's seen it before. But you'll never know when it might happen again!!
It's happening right now! So GO GO LOOK LOOK!!

...Okay, I'm over-exaggerating. You need a filter before you can actually, really SEE it happening. But there's always TV!
Or the National Planetarium!

...But it's almost night. Bah.

Anyway...

Forget what I said earlier, bring out them sexy cheongsams and samfus, brace your empty stomachs ready and practice your wishing!

It's time to reel in the $$ and lou ngam ngam!

And as always, new years are meant for change!
This time around, the Bull is significant to hard work.
Thus, whatever your goal may be, hope you're working hard to get it over and done with!
Though in my case, finally wearing a sleeveless OUT isn't such a good idea...

Gong Xi Fa Cai
you lot!

Surprises: Good for the Soul.

Well, to start it all off, I shall backtrack to Friday:

I have never felt happier seeing someone cry.
Better yet, seeing your PRESIDENT cry.

Don't get me wrong here, I'm not a sadist or anything.
(I meant it in a good way, I swear! D:)

I dubbed this the 'Meli Project'. To cut the long story, it was a surprise planned for our ever awesome ELDS president, Melissa deBruyne Choon Ming May! (Oh wait, that WAS the whole story.. Fair enough. )

So this was what we did:

Love letters! We flooded the reconstructing ELDS board with hoards and hoards of them collected from almost all the members of the society.
It was another one of those throbbing headaches I should say, collecting them pieces of paper which had a tendency of flying in every direction (including Abinaya’s, it preferred the tree ) and with the form 3s stressing their trials.
But in the end, it WORKED!
A big THANK YOU shoutout to Huda, Victoria and all who made this happen (and Mallini Kannan who ushered Meli even faster to the lawn way)! We made her last (meeting) the best, no?

I shall have to beg Huda for more awesome shots because my ‘fantabulous’ camera decided to die on me. ):

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And Saturday:

T’was our Francis Marcher’s party! FINALLY after all that postponing and begging. It was sad though, with only a miserable number of 7 out of a total of 32 marchers plus Gayathrie coming and going barely within the span of 5 minutes.. Well, it WAS a pretty last minute thing after all.

Nevertheless, we had FUN! Didn’t we, Theresa, Atiqah, Nazirah, Zi-Lynn, Meenu and Yen Yen?

Oh, the highlight of the day (for me at least)!

Our very own ‘PRIZE-GIVING CEREMONY’!

“Close your eyes, promise NOT to peak now!”
“SWEAR!”
“This is for all you’ve done for us, because we love you guys and you really deserve it after all that hard earned work.”
“Hope you like it. Open your eyes.”

TA-DAH! Spanking new (okay, not THAT new) personalized GOLD MEDALS! Now how cool can THAT get?! ANOTHER surprise within 2 days! I really ‘syok-sendiri’ lah. X)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Aaaand Sunday:

A word of advice: Don’t ever let the Kateh sleepover at your house. She throws gigantus pillows and kicks yeeeeeew. D:
Okay, okay, that was my fault mostly. But hey, I’m nocturnal. YOU CAN’T BLAME ME! DX
Yes, the great PANDAKATE donned my house with her great presence after we hijacked a swimming pool flooded with little Malay miniatures. (Don’t get me wrong here either, there WERE a lot of them) Lol Kate-stone at breakfast. Hilariously HILARIOUS! XDDD

Thanks Mayu for dragging us all the way to One Utama to find out that the workshop was in BAHASA MALAYSIA. And better still, RM30. Tis’ okay though. Mallini’s whapping into the wall after goggling at an oven made up for it. XD
